Ms Lucia Wong, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, commented: “The theme of GILE 2025 reflects the industry’s potential, pursuit of innovation, and commitment to improving people’s quality of life. The show will serve as a platform to explore the connection between people and light, reflecting current trends and consumption patterns. Organised around four ‘Light + Lifestyle’ categories, the fair will showcase cutting-edge technologies and their transformative impact on daily life, while ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for all participants.”
Four types of Light + Lifestyles: Shaping a new lighting ecosystem
Light + Quality of Life – “Low Carbon Living”: Cultural and tourism spaces, industrial park spaces, and urban and architectural spaces
Quality of life in urban areas is closely linked with people’s mental health and wellbeing. This highlights the importance of safety, comfort, and accessibility in outdoor spaces, while fostering a sustainable and inclusive environment. As China’s urban development increasingly favours sustainability, the country’s dual-carbon strategy is another essential priority for urbanisation, low-carbon framework will be implemented at the city, county and rural levels. By using low-carbon and high-efficiency lighting, electricity consumption can be significantly reduced. With intelligent management systems and IoT technology, precise lighting control can prevent overuse and optimise resource allocation, facilitating sustainable urban development and reducing environmental impacts. Light + Quality of Life – “Low Carbon Living” will be featured in Area A, Level 1, including the topics of:
• Cultural and tourism spaces (Area A, Hall 8.1)
The 2024 China Tourism Leisure and Vacation Market New Trend Development Report indicates that in the first half of 2024, domestic tourist arrivals reached 2.7 billion, up 14.3% year-on-year, with total domestic tourism consumption hitting RMB 2.73 trillion (USD 375 billion), an increase of 19%. This is contributing to the growth of the night-time economy, especially in major tourist areas. Innovations such as digital cultural tours, tourism cloud management systems, metaverse applications for tourism, immersive performances, night tours, immersive exhibitions and immersive themed streets are transforming the culture and tourism industry. These transformations are driving the revitalisation of traditional culture in a way that is relevant to the modern era. Furthermore, advanced technologies such as 5G, ultra-high-definition displays, augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and the metaverse are being used extensively.
• Urban and architectural spaces (Area A, Hall 1.1 – 5.1)
As urbanisation accelerates, the demand for urban lighting is increasing, fuelling the expansion of lighting systems in cities. The thoughtful integration of lighting design into public spaces balances functionality and artistry, enhancing comfort and the overall experience of urban life. LED street lights and smart light poles are facilitating the development of a smart, green and low-carbon transport network, serving as key components in the construction of smart cities. Intelligent lighting that adapts to traffic density and road conserves energy, while supporting the “dual-carbon” goals of boosting energy efficiency and reducing emissions, shaping the future of the building and lighting industry. Replacing fluorescent lamps with intelligent, interconnected lighting systems in buildings offers significant energy savings, while standards for energy-efficient, intelligent, and green buildings continue to rise.
• Industrial park spaces (Area A, Hall 4.1)
Lighting innovations are transforming agriculture and industrial practices by advancing sustainability, efficiency, and smarter resource management. Cutting-edge technologies are driving progress across the supply chain, reshaping industries to meet modern demands for eco-friendly and intelligent solutions.
Light + Agriculture – “Green Living”: New quality lighting production, bio-optical and intelligent agriculture
Lighting innovations are advancing agricultural and industrial practices, with a focus on sustainability, efficiency, and quality. Emerging technologies are transforming production processes and resource management, reshaping industries to meet modern demands for eco-friendly and intelligent solutions. On Level 2 of Area A, visitors will be able to see:
• New quality lighting production (Area A, Hall 1.2 – 4.2)
GILE 2025 highlights advancements in the lighting industry chain through the concepts of “New Manufacturing, New Service and New Quality”. This includes cooperation among raw material suppliers, chip makers, as well as providers of lighting accessories, optical components and lenses, production and testing equipment and materials, LED encapsulated light sources, devices, modules, and power supplies.
• Bio-optics and intelligent agriculture (Area A, Hall 3.2)
Bio-optics is transforming agriculture, with technologies such as planting process spectroscopy, digitised artificial light, and controlled-environment agriculture enabling efficient and precise production. Smart agriculture is also leveraging artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing and other technologies to optimise resources, aligning with global trends in sustainable development.
Light + Aesthetics: “Inspired Living” – Home and commercial spaces
Creative lighting design goes beyond illumination, serving as a tool for artistry and emotion. It has become a cornerstone of spatial aesthetics, incorporating elements such as sculptural chandeliers and minimalist floor lamps, creating multi-dimensional lighting environments that add depth, character and vibrancy to spaces.
Looking ahead, lighting design is poised to evolve in three directions, which can be seen in the halls across Area B, Level 1. Customised lighting services are gaining traction, allowing individuals to tailor lighting solutions to their personal preferences and the unique characteristics of their spaces. Eco-friendly values are shaping modern lighting design, with sustainable materials such as natural wood and bamboo, combined with energy-efficient LED technology, are becoming integral to lighting solutions. The rise of smart lighting systems with integrated technology, including voice commands and mobile applications for remote operation, is transforming lighting into an interactive and convenient part of modern living, blending technology with light to enhance modern lifestyles.
Light + Smart Technology: “Connected Living” – Intelligent Systems and IoT-Integrated Solutions
As technology and design continue to advance, panoramic and intelligent lighting will become increasingly integrated. Panoramic lighting design will focus on personalisation and customisation, offering users tailored and precise lighting solutions powered by intelligent lighting systems. These systems will continue to evolve to provide smarter, more automated control and management, higher convenience and efficiency. GILE 2025 will showcase the latest advancements in the smart lighting ecosystem on Levels 2 and 3 in Area B. Products on display include intelligent control and dimming systems, smart chips and modules, IoT technologies, cloud platforms, sensing, communication modules, communication protocols, smart devices and comprehensive solutions for smart home and smart lighting. Beyond presenting eco-conscious products, exhibitors will demonstrate innovative lighting scenarios that highlight the seamless integration of IoT and lighting technologies. GILE 2025 will serve as a catalyst for future lighting, paving the way for deeper integration with IoT to unlock new possibilities.
Ms Lucia Wong added: “Advanced technology is making lighting systems increasingly intelligent, with applications in smart homes, cities, and a growing focus on the impact of lighting on human health. This shift has opened up exciting new possibilities for the industry. Green transformation and cross-industry integration are driving significant change, pushing the boundaries of what lighting can achieve. GILE 2025 represents a major leap forward with enhanced support services to uncover new business opportunities, foster fresh ideas, and celebrate the 30th anniversary as a key milestone for the industry.”
